Data & Sources

Where TitlePull Data Comes From

Every TitlePull report is assembled from four named sources. Nothing in the report is invented or estimated outside of those sources.

VinData (NMVTIS)

Title history, title brands (salvage, rebuilt, junk, flood, lemon, theft recovery, and others), and theft data are pulled from the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) through VIN Data Products LLC ("VinData"), an Approved NMVTIS Data Provider authorized by the U.S. Department of Justice. NMVTIS consolidates records reported by all 50 state DMVs, insurance carriers, and salvage facilities.

NHTSA

Open safety recall information is pulled from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Recall coverage reflects the most recent NHTSA campaign data and includes the campaign number, affected component, summary, and remedy.

Black Book®

Market valuations are licensed from Black Book, a Hearst Business Media company. Each report shows rough, average, and clean trade values adjusted for the vehicle's recorded mileage and history. Black Book® is a registered trademark of Hearst Business Media.

AI-Generated Summary

A plain-language summary at the top of each report is generated by AI from the vehicle data in the report. It is provided for convenience and does not replace the detailed records in the report.

What TitlePull Reports Don't Include

  • Private maintenance and repair records that were never reported to NMVTIS or a state DMV
  • Individual mechanic visits, oil changes, or warranty work performed off-network
  • Every fender-bender, only collisions that resulted in an insurance total-loss declaration or a state title brand are reported
  • Real-time ownership transfers, there can be a lag between a sale and when a new title is recorded

TitlePull reports complement, they don't replace, a pre-purchase mechanical inspection by a qualified technician.
